China's Steel Industry Accelerates High-Quality Growth In Innovation
- Aug 09, 2018 -

Chi Jingdong, vice president of the China Iron and Steel Association, recently hinted that China's steel products have entered a new stage of high-quality growth. From geological exploration, iron mining, steel making, steel rolling and deep processing, the entire wealth chain of steel industry has reached the world-class level. The next step is to rely on skill, quality and service to achieve growth. Chi came up with the above concept at the Cenling Forum on “High Quality Growth—the Road to Steel-Powerful Country”.

Chi also suggested that after diminishing the industrial capacities for more than two years, China's steel production capacity rate has been restored to a fair level, and the industry's operating situation has improved significantly.

At the same time, the layout of steel wealth is constantly optimized, energy conservation and environmental protection have taken big steps, and technological innovation achievements have also emerged. The basic material together with skill and talent guarantees lay the foundation for the steel industry to accelerate the realization of high quality growth.

However, many industry experts participated in the forum also indicated that the current high-quality steel growth also faces with many challenges, like the prevention of new capacity expansion and the resurgence of “strip steel”, the short-term steel making needs to be straightened out and the environmental protection to be strict.

“From the end of May to the end of June, the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology together with other relevant departments will organize a special check of preventing the resumption of excess capacity and the re-ignition of 'strip steel' to revoke the dangerous idea of capacity expansion and to firm the hard-won achievements of production capacity,” said Xu Wenli, Director of the Iron and Steel Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
